How we meet the Early Learning Goals
The curriculum is structured and sequenced to ensure progression and continuity, with different themes lasting two or three weeks. The children are guided and encouraged to explore, learn and develop their skills through various activities, some of which do not always appear to be useful, but actually are very valuable. We split the sessions between “Playgroup” and “Early Learner” each of which has a well developed set of activities to meet the six areas of learning.
We also involve all of the children in the following two areas.

Playgroup sessions offer activities in a structured but free choice environment where the children can explore and develop through a wide range of activities.
Early Learner sessions are for those children who will start school in the following September, and, with the Hampshire Education policy of 4’s into school we think that this can be best used for the two terms prior to your child starting “Big School”. We will however, make this available for three terms where circumstances permit.
The Early Learner sessions are "Desk based" in small groups to enable your child to start school with a wider range of Pre-School experiences.
The sessions are a flexible, yet structured, child-centred environment in which your child can continue to grow and develop their skills in good preparation for School.
We work closely with Medstead Primary School and other schools in the area to ensure a gradual transition to the type of activity and structure that the children will encounter when they actually join the Reception Class. This ensures that their first few days are far less traumatic.
They also have the advantage that they know, and are used to working with, many of the children who start on the same day.
